College of Advanced Training and Continuing Education, Jimei University
Jimei University（JMU）is a "Double First-class" university and a key university under construction in Fujian Province.It is jointly constructed by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Fujian Provincial Government and the Xiamen Municipal Government. It is authorized to offer doctoral degrees andrecommend graduate students with exemption of examinations.JMUattaches great importance to the development of advanced training andcontinuing education. On December 5, 2014, the former Adult Education College and the Crew Training Center were merged into the College ofAdvanced Training andContinuing Education (CATCE) ofJMU.
CATCE is responsible foradvanced training and continuing education inJMU. It is also the branch of the Central Agricultural Cadre Education and Training Center, the national key construction training base for vocational education teachers; the pilot unit of comprehensive reform of higher education examination program for self-taught in Fujian Province, and an important base formaritimeeducation and crew training in China. It is the only institution in mainland China authorized by the Maritime Safety Administration of the Ministry of Transport to carry out competency training for marine ship crew in Taiwan.
Relyingon the strong faculty, advanced teaching and scientific research equipment ofJMU, CATCE gives full play to the overall advantages of a multi-disciplinary university to carry out high-level, good-performing and high-quality training and continuing education for the society. In accordance with social needs, the college sets up majors reasonably and optimizes the school running structure to offer self-taught undergraduate courses and correspondence courses. Now it has 11 undergraduate majors for adult education, 19 undergraduatemajors forself-taught examination and 17 specialties for junior colleges, with more than 5500 students of all kinds.
CATCE actively promotes non-academic education and training, serving the needs of the industry and local economic and social development. It has conducted a number of training projects for the party, government, enterprises and institutions, including but not limited in the demobilized cadres training, enterprise management training, technical training, vocational skills training, research and learning activities, etc. As the Crew Training Center of JMU, it has also undertaken the task of carrying out various special training for social crew and marine vocational education personnel.
After years of development, the college has built up a multi-level, multi-standard, multi-type and multi-form school-running pattern and system based on the local needs and facing the whole country. Adhering to the principles of teaching quality as the lifeline, combining industry and education, and focusing on the comprehensive quality cultivation, the college has turned out a large number of applied innovative talents in technology and management, with both ability and political integrity, which has been welcomed and praised by all sectors of society and employers, and won a good social reputation.
Looking forward to the future, CATCE will adhere to the development path of "modernization, openness, high-level and strong brand" in accordance with the requirements of building high-quality and characteristic continuing education. It will focus on the national strategy and the needs of regional economic and social development, fully tap the internal and external resources and explore the connotative development path around the needs of rejuvenating the country through science and education, strengthening the marine power, revitalizing rural areas as well as constructing learning-oriented society. It will strive to improve the quality and brand construction of continuing education to make new and greater contributions to the construction of first-class university of JMU!
